  • Phelps—Nancy Lee Hughson, 65, died at home on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 with her family at her side, after battling pancreatic cancer for a year.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 26 at the United Methodist Church, 1 Main St., Clifton Springs, a reception followed in the Grace Center of the church. Burial was in Resthaven Cemetery in Phelps at the convenience of the family.
Gratitude goes to Strong Memorial Hospital Wilmont Cancer Center, Dr. Tigani and his staff Mary and Cheryl, and also the Yates-Ontario Hospice.
Nancy's mother always told the family she wanted flowers when she could see and enjoy them, so flowers were often enjoyed by Nancy and her family. The family requested no flowers and memorial contributions be made in Nancy's memory to Phelps Fire Department/Ambulance, 74 Ontario St., Phelps, N.Y. 14532 or the NYS Troopers Foundation, 3 Airport Park Blvd., Latham, N.Y. 12210.
Nancy was born on Sept. 17, 1947, daughter of Arthur H. and Nellie Mae (Hughner) Hughson, and lived in Phelps her entire life. Nancy retired from the New York State Police Troop E. Head quarters where she retired as a records clerk after 37 years. Nancy was very artistic and did many graphic design projects for Troop E. and community organizations. After retiring she was an office receptionist at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack. Most of Phelps knew her as the amazing lady who walked her five mile route around town every day of the year no matter what the weather, she said it cleared her head and made her feel good.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Brenda (George) Nudd; sisters Carol Lord and Marianne Hughner; brother Howard (Sylvia) Hughson; and her precious grandchildren Allison and Dylan Nudd, all of Phelps; niece Torie Mellamphy of New York City.
Arrangements by Schulz-Pusateri Funeral Home, 103 Maple Court., Newark.
