  • Savannah/Lyons—Mildred M. Metcalf, 97, died Wednesday Aug. 7, 2013 at Newark-Wayne Hospital.
    Friends called from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 11 at Boeheim-Pusateri Funeral Home, 77 William St., Lyons. Funeral at 11 a.m. on Monday Aug. 12 at First Lutheran Church. Burial in Lyons Rural Cemetery.
    Mildred was born in the town of Galen on Oct. 10, 1915, daughter of Arthur and Mabel Stell Spies. She worked at GE in Clyde and Auburn, retiring in 1973. She was a member of the Savannah Grange and served as master. She also was a member of Pamona Grange. She served as President of the PTA of the Savannah School. She was the oldest member of First Lutheran Church of Lyons and a member of its Quilters.
    Survived by her daughter, Sherlene Alvaro of Lyons; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Metcalf of Springfield, Missouri; five grandchildren, Philip (Kathy), Dennis (Katie), Brian (Michelle) Alvaro, Scott (Colleen) Metcalf, and Michelle (Brian) Leonard; nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Edna Metcalf; brother Ray Spies of Clyde; sister, Helen Frind; nieces and nephews. Predeceased by husband, George (1978); brothers, Harold and Elmer Spies.
