NEWARK — The second and final phase of the district’s EXCEL (Expanding our Children’s Education and Learning) project should be wrapped up in the next few months.
EXCEL funds have been used to make important health, safety, technology, accessibility, energy and physical capacity expansion capital improvements in the district since 2010. This summer, the road south of Newark High School that runs parallel to Newark Middle School is being repaved.
Other major improvements include: • A new sewer line for the bus garage is being installed.
• The Newark High School kitchen is being replaced.
• Roof repairs are being made at Perkins School.
• Wireless technology upgrades are being made in all five schools.
Ed Gnau, assistant superintendent for business, said EXCEL Project work is slated to be completed by the end of October.
