  • Woman charged after using friend’s debit card
    MACEDON — A Macedon woman was charged Aug. 17 with petit larceny, Macedon police said.
    Lisa L. Sherman, 40, of Frey Road, was charged after she was given a debit card to buy medication for a friend and allegedly used the card at several ATMs and stores to withdraw money totaling $678.25, police said.
    She was issued an appearance ticket to appear in Macedon Town Court.
    Woman allegedly sent 132 texts
    MACEDON — A Webster woman was charged Aug. 20 with second-degree aggravated harassment, Macedon police said.
    Sarah Riedl, 19, of Blackberry Lane, allegedly sent a total of 132 text messages and called the victim 14 times in a 1-hour time frame, police said.
    She was processed and posted a $250 bail to the Macedon Town Court. She will return Sept. 17 at 11 a.m.
    Palmyra man charged with DWI
    MACEDON — A Palmyra man was charged Aug. 20 with felony driving while intoxicated, driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 percent or more, speeding, failure to keep right and aggravated unlicensed operator, Macedon police said.
    Yeh Qin, 55, of Main Street, was initially stopped for speeding in the village of Macedon, police said. During the stop, the officer allegedly noticed a strong aroma of alcohol. After failing field sobriety tests, he was placed under arrest. He was found to have a BAC of .12 percent.
    He was arraigned in Macedon Town Court and sent to the Wayne County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bail. He is scheduled to reappear in court on Aug. 28 at 7 p.m.
    Man charged after child found walking on road
    MACEDON — A Macedon man was charged Aug. 21 with endangering the welfare of a child, Macedon police.
    Yevgeniy Rutman, 53, of Dayspring Ridge, was charged after a witness allegedly located a 2-year-old child walking down Waterford Road unsupervised, with no adult in sight, police said. With the assistance of the Gananda School District, police were able to contact a family member. Rutman returned home shortly after and was arrested. He stated he had to go to Perinton and didn’t want to wake the child up. A 10-year-old child was in the residence as well alone.
    He was issued an appearance ticket for Macedon Town Court on Sept. 24 at 11 a.m.
    Deputies: Palmyra man charged after fleeing on foot
    MANCHESTER — A Palmyra man was charged Tuesday by Ontario County sheriff’s deputies with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and obstructing governmental administration.
    Deputies said they observed Jesse C. Hammond, 21, of 560 Sheldon Road, possibly tampering with public property on Main Street in Manchester. When they attempted to stop and speak with him, Hammond allegedly fled on foot and was apprehended after a short pursuit, deputies said.
    He was found to be allegedly unlawfully in possession of a controlled substance.

    Palmyra man injured in Phelps crash
    PHELPS — A Palmyra man was flown by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital Thursday, Aug. 15, following a one-vehicle crash in Phelps, Ontario County sheriff’s deputies said.
    Deputies said Gerald F. Beman, 50, of 451 W. Main St., Apt. 1, was operating a pickup truck in the Express Mart parking lot on state Route 96, then drove out of the lot and into the lawn of the Eaton Corporation, which is east of Express Mart. The vehicle then struck an embankment and a tree and continued into a cement curbing and shrubs in front of the building, deputies said. Beman sustained head and facial injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment, deputies said.
    Deputies attributed the crash to a possible medical condition or event prior to the crash.
    The Phelps Fire Department assisted at the scene.
    Accident sends driver to hospital
    WALWORTH — The Wayne County Office of the Sheriff investigated a one-car automobile accident on Fosdick Road in Walworth on July 28, that resulted in injuries to the driver.
    Deputies say that Brayden Riel, 18, of Plank Road, was traveling north on Fosdick Road when the vehicle he was driving went off the road and struck a tree. Riel was trapped and had to be extricated by the Lincoln Fire Department. He was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for his injuries.
    Alcohol is believed to be a factor and the accident is still under investigation.
    Deputies were assisted by the Lincoln Fire Department, Rural Metro Ambulance and Northeast Quadrant Advanced Life Support.
    Tractor-trailer hits car
    ONTARIO — The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reports the investigation of a two-vehicle personal injury accident that happened July 26 in the town of Ontario.
    Cristy Bell, 28, of Knickerbocker Road, was northbound on Knickerbocker Road at the Route 104 intersection. Bell entered the intersection to make a left turn onto Route 104 westbound. Her vehicle was hit by a tractor trailer heading eastbound on Route 104 that allegedly failed to stop at the red light. The tractor trailer was operated by Cheryl Boucher, 60, of Rochester.
    Ontario Fire and EMS responded to the scene. They were assisted by Union Hill EMS. Bell was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital by the Ontario Ambulance and Boucher was transported to Rochester General by Union Hill Ambulance.
    Boucher was issued a traffic citation for failing to stop at a steady red light.
    Children injured in accident
    ONTARO — The Wayne County Office of the Sheriff reports the investigation of a personal injury motor vehicle accident on July 25 at the intersection of Ridge Road and Fisher Road in Ontario.
    A pickup truck southbound on Fisher Road, operated by Nicholas M. Bailey, 26, of 2463 Welch Road, Geneva, was attempting to cross Ridge Road. Bailey’s truck was struck by a vehicle eastbound on Ridge Road, operated by James J. Petrotta Jr., 41, of 2850 Ridge Road, Williamson. Bailey’s truck overturned on impact and before coming to rest struck a third vehicle operated by Diana G. Holbein, 57, of 320 Route 21, Palmyra.
    Page 3 of 4 - The passenger in Bailey’s truck, Nicole R. Ribis, 21, of 28 Antis St., Canandaigua, was transported by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Petrotta and his children, Jordan R. Burke, 15, and Kaitlin E. Petrotta, 10, were also all transported by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Bailey and Holbein were not injured.
    Bailey was ticketed for failure to yield right of way. Assisting the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office on scene was the town of Ontario Fire Department and Ambulance and town of Williamson Ambulance.
    Man arrested for harassment, endangering a child
    WALWORTH — The Wayne County Office of the Sheriff reports the arrest of William D. Boas, 39, of Atlantic Avenue, Walworth, on July 27, for endangering the welfare of a child and second-degree harassment.
    Boas was intoxicated and began to argue with his girlfriend. He grabbed her by the hood of her sweat shirt, leaving a red mark on her neck. Boas’ 4-year-old son was present during the argument and it is alleged that Boas attempted to take his son out of bed to leave with him.
    Boas was arraigned in Walworth Town Court and released on his own recognizance. He will return to court at a later date to answer the charges.
    Newark man arrested for aggravated DWI
    ARCADIA — The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office arrested Steven J. Castonguay, 48, of Trout Run, Newark, on July 26, for aggravated driving while intoxicated.
    He was arrested after he lost control of his vehicle on Hydesville Road in Arcadia, causing him to go into a ditch on the north side of the roadway. Castonguay was issued tickets for driving while intoxicated, driving with a BAC over .18 percent, failure to keep right, failure to maintain designated lane and unlicensed operation.
    He was released on tickets and is to appear in Arcadia Town Court at a later date to answer the charges.
    Marion man arrested for DWI
    SODUS — The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office arrested Justin M. Banker, 24, of Maple Ridge Road, Marion, on July 26, for driving while intoxicated/BAC, failure to reduce speed special hazard, moving from lane unsafely and failure to stop for stop sign.
    The arrest stems from the investigation of a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Ridge Road and Route 88 in Sodus.
    Banker was issued tickets and released, and is to appear in Sodus Town Court at a later date to answer the charges.
    Man arrested for felony DWI
    SODUS — Wayne County Sheriff’s deputies arrested James R. Jeffery Jr., 45, of Prospect Drive, Palmyra, on July 26, for felony aggravated DWI/BAC, failure to keep right and consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle.
    The arrest stems from a vehicle and traffic complaint originating at the Burger King in Williamson. Jeffery was stopped by deputies on Maple Avenue in Sodus.
    Page 4 of 4 - He was issued traffic tickets for Sodus Town Court and released. He is to return to court at a later date to answer the charges.
    Man arrested following traffic stop
    MACEDON — The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office arrested James H. Berne Jr., 43, of 3336 Evergreen Circle, Walworth, following a traffic stop on Macedon Center Road on Aug. 2.
    Berne was arrested for driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle with a BAC of .08 percent or higher, moving from lane unsafely and refusal to take a breath-screening test.
    He was released on tickets and is scheduled to appear in Macedon Town Court at a later date to answer the charges.
