Ronald F. Van Camp, 91, entered eternal rest on Sept. 9, 2013, at his home after a brief illness.
Family and friends can call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 12 at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home Inc., 124 W. Miller St., Newark. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Sept. 13 at St. Michael Church, S. Main St., Newark. Burial will follow in East Newark Cemetery with military honors. Mr. Van Camp was born the son of the late Benjamin and Anna (Price) Van Camp on May 13, 1922, in Newark. He was a graduate of Newark High School in 1940. Mr. Van Camp owned and operated, along with his brother Robert, the Van Camp Meat Market in Marbletown for many years. He served on the Arcadia Town Board for 20 years, retiring in 1979. He was a 60-year member of the Newark Elks Lodge and served as Exalted Ruler, a member of the Newark American Legion Post 286. Mr. Van Camp enjoyed playing golf and did so as recently as a week ago. His regular foursome included Dick Gaines, Lynn Lasken and Anthony Destaffan.
The staff at the funeral home proudly flies the U.S. Coast Guard Navy Flag in honor of his service to the country during WWII.
Mr. Van Camp will be remembered by his sons, Paul (Kathy) and David (Jane); daughters, Susan (Daryl) Minier, Patricia (Paul) Brennan and Nancy Jennings; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandsons; sister, Margaret "Peggy" Meyers; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Van Camp was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Catherine (Coughlin) Van Camp in 2007; son-in-law, Harold Jennings; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Janet Van Camp; and brother-in-law, Charles Meyers.
