PALMYRA — The Wayne Post talked to Palmyra-Macedon Superintendent Bob Ike to find out what students could expect for the new school year. Here’s what he had to say.
Q. Anything new going on/capital projects?
A. No facility improvement projects at this time.
Q. Any new staff? (names, positions, and background):
A. Debbie Davis, Instrumental Music Teacher Grades 5 and 6, Previously taught in Buffalo area
Jennifer Manley, Part-Time Math at High School, has served as a long-term substitute teacher in District prior to this year
Angie DeClerck, Part-Time Early Intervention Teacher, has served as a substitute teacher in the District for several years
Q. Challenges for the school year?
A. Implementation of the Common Core Learning Standards
To not get consumed by the testing of children.
Q. What’s one thing students should look forward to?
A. Welcoming our two exchange students:
Szabi Zsudel (Hungary) — Host Family (Rotary Youth Exchange): David and Donna Heckman
Nils Beckmann (Germany) — Host Family: John and Kathryn Hutton
Q. What construction/projects are slated for this year? Any disruptions to classroom activity?
None. The Board of Education will consider a referendum for December 2013.
Q. What are budget challenges?
A. Given the constraints of the tax levy limit and the State’s failure to fund education according to the Foundation Aid Formula, the District is currently updating a 5-year financial plan.
