Several teams and runners are poised for big years

The Section 5 cross country season is underway, and several local teams and individual runners are poised for big years after performing well in 2012.

Coach Bob Stewart's Honeoye boys team is coming off its first Section 5 championship. The Bulldogs will be in position to defend their league and sectional titles, as they bring back their top four runners: David Stutzman, Sam Missall, Jake Vanderbroek and Zach Erickson.

Marcus Whitman's Audrey Button and Red Jacket's Shealyn Doody are both coming off their first individual sectional titles in Classes C and DD respectively.

Midlakes' Mitchell Priebe placed second at Class CC sectionals in 2012 and made it to states.

The Canandaigua girls placed third in Section 5 Class A last year, which was extremely competitive with Penfield and Rush-Henrietta. The Braves graduated some key contributors, but bring back Kennedy Jensen, Dana Garbinski and Mackenzie Hulme. Jensen placed second at sectionals and made a return to Nike Cross Nationals in Portland, Ore.
