The New York State Health Department has opened its hotline to help customers sign up for the state health care exchange.
State health officials say the exchange will provide health insurance to at least one million uninsured New Yorkers and will also provide tax credits to individuals who earn less than $45,960 and families of four with incomes under $94,200. The exchanges are scheduled to open on Jan. 1, 2014.
New York – which is receiving $370 million in federal aid – has been preparing for the launch of the exchanges. Trained representatives are now answering questions for residents and small businesses, which are also eligible to enroll.
The "NY State of Health" program can be reached at (855) 355-5777 and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The enrollment period begins Oct. 1 and runs through March 31, 2014.
