  • The Ontario Honda Section 5 Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week were announced on Monday for Week 3 of the high school football season.
    DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
    Class AA
    Charlie Rist, a 5-foot-11 senior linebacker for Aquinas, had 7 solo tackles, 3 assists and 1 tackle for a loss. He also had one interception and one fumble recovery in a 29-3 win over Ursuline (Ohio).
    Class A
    Trent Egenlauf, a 6-foot-1 senior linebacker for Spencerport, forced a key fumble and assisted on 13 tackles adding two solo to that total in a 27-14 win over Irondequoit.
    Class B
    James Cryer, a 5-foot-10 junior linebacker from Batavia, led the team with a total of 19 tackles, 9 solo and 10 assisted in a 34-6 loss to Brighton.
    Class C
    Bryan Quayle, a 6-foot-1 senior defensive end from Marcus Whitman, had 14 solo tackles, 4 for losses and 5 quarterback sacks in a 3-0 win over Lyons.
    Class DD
    John Jackson, a 6-foot-0 sophomore linebacker from Bishop Kearney, had a total of 13 tackles, 6 solo and 7 assists with 1 quarterback sack and 1 tackle for a loss in a 55-15 win over Warsaw.
    Class D
    Cal Felker, a 5-11 senior linebacker from Clyde Savannah, had 13 solo tackles, 3 assisted tackles, 1 forced fumble, 1 interception and scored a touchdown on offense in a 54-14 win over Mynderse.
    OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
    Class AA
    Bam Akinniyi, a 5-foot-8 senior running back from Webster Schroeder, had 19 carries for 220 yards, four touchdowns, averaging 11.6 yards per carry. Bam had 2 pass receptions for 31 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 kickoff return for 43 yards. He had 3 punts averaging 44 yards and a total of 5 touchdowns in a 34-14 win over Gates Chili.
    Class A
    Will Mahar, a 6-foot-2 senior wide receiver and kicker from McQuaid, had one point after touchdown and five field goals from 37, 41, 33, 21 yards out and a 52-yarder as time ran out for a 22-21 victory over Edison. Mahar set up the final field goal with a 42-yard reception with less than a second on the clock. He also recorded six touchbacks.
    Class B
    Phil Tack, a 6-foot-0 senior quarterback from Newark, completed 7 of 19 pass attempts for 179 yards. He also had 23 carries for 86 rushing yards and 1 passing touchdown and 4 rushing touchdowns in a 33-19 win over Wayne.
    Class C
    Matt Perry, a 6-foot-1 senior running back from Attica, had 17 carries for 288 rushing yards. He had 6 touchdown runs of 51, 45, 35, 1 and 14 yards. Perry broke the school's career rushing record, touchdowns scored record and points record in a 41-7 win over Pembroke.

    Kurtis Haut, a 6-foot-0 senior quarterback from Cal-Mum, rushed for 274 yards on 19 carries and scored 3 touchdowns. He also threw for 1 score in a 35-13 win over Avon.
    Class D
    Christian Hollister, a 5-foot-6 junior linebacker from Perry, had 10 rushes for 163 yards and 3 touchdowns with the longest being 97 yards. He had 3 receptions for 108 yards, 2 touchdowns and scored 3 two-point conversions in a 58-8 win over York.
