  • FALL GOLF PREVIEW: Honeoye looks to stay atop league

  • The Bulldogs are after their ninth-straight Finger Lakes West title.

  • The Honeoye golf team graduated a pair of Finger Lakes West first-team all-stars last summer, but the Bulldogs are still looking to continue their run of league titles.
    Honeoye went 12-0 overall and 10-0 in the league to hold off Harley-Allendale Columbia last year for its eighth straight title. Midlakes, who finished third in the Finger Lakes East, is making the move to the west and will look to challenge the Bulldogs.
    Geneva went 10-1-1 to win the 2012 Finger Lakes East title.
    Here's a look at the area's golf teams:
    Harley-Allendale Columbia Wolves
    CLASS/LEAGUE: Class C, Finger Lakes West
    COACH/YEAR: Tony Tepedino 2012 RECORD/PLAYOFFS: 10-2
    HOME COURSE: Eagle Vale Golf Course
    TOP GOLFERS: Will Hampson, Sr.; Nate Morse, Fr.
    ACHIEVEMENTS: Hampson played No. 2 for the Wolves and missed qualifying for sectionals by just three strokes. He made the Finger Lakes West All-Star first team.
    COACH'S COMMENT: Will has all the tools and is our team leader. Nate is only a freshman and he is starting his third season on the varsity team. This could be a breakout season for Nate.
    Honeoye Bulldogs
    CLASS/LEAGUE: Class C, Finger Lakes West
    COACH/YEAR: Jeff Orman
    2012 RECORD/PLAYOFFS: 12-0, Third in sectionals
    HOME COURSE: Old Hickory Golf Course
    TOP GOLFERS: Pete Lovejoy, Sr.; John Marble, 8th; Charlie Reitz, Fr.; Nate Longbine, Fr.
    ACHIEVEMENTS: Marble finished in the top 15 at the league tournament. Lovejoy and Marble qualified for the league tournament. Both golfers shot low rounds of 42 at Old Hickory.
    COACH'S COMMENT: Pete is our only senior. With a young team I am looking for him to provide leadership.
    Midlakes Screaming Eagles
    CLASS/LEAGUE: Class B, Finger Lakes West
    COACH/YEAR: Jeff Beall 2012
    RECORD/PLAYOFFS: 9-4
    HOME COURSE: Clifton Springs Country Club
    TOP GOLFERS: Jake Blondell, Jr.; Nick Waite, Sr.; Matt LaPaglia, So.
    ACHIEVEMENTS: Blondell was a first-team all-star in 2012.
    COACH'S COMMENT: Jake is consistent and steady. Nick is returning to Midlakes from California and has played well in the preseason. Matt has a good work ethic and continues to contribute to the team.
    OTHER GOLFERS TO WATCH: Jason Simmons, Sr.; Skylar Sullivan, Jr.
    Naples Big Green
    CLASS/LEAGUE: Class C, Finger Lakes West
    COACH/YEAR: Aaron O'Rourke

    ACHIEVEMENTS: His best round of last year was a one-over par 37 at Old Hickory. He was a first-team all-star in 2012.
    COACH'S COMMENT: He has a great swing and works hard each day to improve.
    OTHER GOLFERS TO WATCH: Tyler Holton, Jason Pulver, Jake Rathbun, Matt Cotton, George Kotlik.
    Newark Reds
    CLASS/LEAGUE: Class B, Finger Lakes East
    COACH/YEAR: Eric Palumbo
    2012 RECORD/PLAYOFFS: 0-12
    HOME COURSE: Newark Country Club
    TOP GOLFERS: William Blair, Jr.; Cameron Casselman, Sr.
    COACH'S COMMENT: Both have grown since last year and have solidified their spots as one and two on the team. They put in a lot of work and are great role models on and off the course for the rest of the team.
    OTHER GOLFERS TO WATCH: Ryan Blair, Fr.
    Palmyra-Macedon Red Raiders
    CLASS/LEAGUE: Class B, Finger Lakes East
    COACH/YEAR: Dan Harris
    2012 RECORD/PLAYOFFS: 2-12
    HOME COURSE: Crooked Pines Golf Club
    TOP GOLFERS: Tyler Hurlbutt, Jr.; Morgan Jeffery, Sr.; Zach Tessier, Sr.
    ACHIEVEMENTS: Hurlbutt has scored a 44 this season, which is his lowest round.
    COACH'S COMMENT: Tyler and Moe are scoring much more consistently and their scores are trending down as the season has moved on. They are both great leaders in practice and have been great in helping with the younger kids on the team.
