  • MARBLETOWN The John and Emma Galens family reunion was held July 28 at the Marbletown firemen's field with about 160 people attending. Begun in 1993, the Galens family has grown to over 400 descendents, including spouses. Families attending the Galens reunion represented their 12 children, 61 grandchildren, 129 great-grandchildren and 89 great-great grandchildren. Other than a few who live in Florida, North Carolina and Iowa, most of the Galens family still live in the Finger Lakes area. The most senior member attending was 90 year-old Helen Galens Crowley and the youngest was 8 month old Dominick Galens Offin. The oldest grandchild was Jean Gardner Bauer and the youngest grandchild was Emma Galens White. Cathleen Pollet (De Wilde) Field of Glenwood, Iowa, traveled the longest distance to attend the reunion.
A highlight of the reunion was a beautiful memory album created by Barb Galens Karney who worked with her family to record family history and vital statistics, beginning with the patriarch coming from Holland, to his mother who lived to be 104 years old. Original wedding pictures and photographs of the Galens families as well as group pictures from past reunions are featured along with copies of original immigration documents, citizenship papers, marriage and death certificates and birth announcements.
