Louis J. Piro, age 65 of Fairport, died on Sept. 28, 2013, at Rochester General Hospital.
No prior calling. A mass of christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Oct. 2 at St. Michael Church, S. Main St., Newark.
Dr. Piro was born on Oct. 9, 1947, in Nashville, Tenn., the son of the late Louis J. and Petronella Ogurkis Piro Sr. A life-long New Yorker, he graduated high school from Dona Prep. School. He then graduated from New York Medical College in 1975 and completed his residency at the New Jersey College of Medicine. Piro received a Fellowship at Strong Memorial Hospital in the Hematology and Oncology Department. In 1985, he started his private practice in Newark. Piro was a member of the American Medical Association. He loved being a doctor, but in his free time, he enjoyed traveling, hiking and fishing with his friends.
Piro is survived by his wife of 37 years, Saule; son, Alexis of Fairport; daughter, Katherine, and son-in-law, Brett Despatovitch of Toronto, Canada; a sister, Susan (Phil) Vitale of Brooklyn; two brothers, Joseph (Pamela) of Garfield, N.J. and John of Manhatten.
