A Wayne County man who sheriff’s deputies turned a gun on himself after apparently shooting at people inside a Galen home on Thursday has died.
Richard Perkins, no age given, died at Strong Memorial Hospital, said a spokesperson on Friday morning.
According to deputies, at 11:50 a.m., Thursday, Wayne County 911 received a call from the residence at 681 Route 414 in Galen. The caller stated that his brother had a gun and was shooting at people in the house and that his brother had shot himself. The Sheriff's Office said it responded to find Perkins inside the residence with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Deputies said Perkins, who was a resident, was upset for reasons that are not yet apparent when he pulled out a handgun and started shooting at several people in the residence. He then turned the gun on himself. No one else inside the residence was hit, said deputies.
Perkins was transported by Clyde Ambulance to Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, then later by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he later died.
