Douglas C. Smith passed away.
Friends joined the family from 2 to 5 p.m. on Oct. 6 at Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapels, 1040 Route 31, Macedon. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Oct. 7 at The United Church of Marion, 3848 North Main St., Marion. His interment was held at Marion Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, consider donations to Hildebrandt Hospice or the American Cancer Society in Douglas' memory.
Doug was born to the late Elery and Marjorie Smith on Aug. 15, 1938, in Marion. As the head produce buyer, he worked for Wegmans for 42 years. He was greatly respected and is remembered for his honesty and integrity in all dealings. He was also an avid reader, walker and enjoyed working in his flower gardens. He is remembered as a loving husband and doting grandfather, who dearly loved his children, and was an honorable, sincere man with a wonderful sense of humor and a smile and laugh that warmed everyone around him.
Doug is predeceased by his deeply loved wife, Mary Jane (Roegiers). He is survived by his children, Michelle (Mark) Hall of Liverpool and Michael (Megan) Smith of Walworth; four grandchildren, Matthew Broekhuizen (Cori Blake), Cody Broekhuizen (Rheve Cliff), Austin and Addison Smith; his sister, Cindy (Patric) Amarando; his brothers, Gary (Karen) Smith and Jerry Smith; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
