A student at Victor Senior High School has been diagnosed with Pertussis, also known as whooping cough. The information was posted on Victor Central School District's website.
School officials do not believe this student had contact with students in the elementary school buildings. The district says it's sharing the student's diagnosis to make parents aware of the situation.
About Pertussis (from CDC.gov):
Pertussis is known for uncontrollable, violent coughing which often makes it hard to breathe. After fits of many coughs, someone with Pertussis often needs to take deep breathes which result in a "whooping" sound. Pertussis most commonly affects infants and young children and can be fatal, especially in babies less than one year of age.
District officials say if your child is displaying these symptoms, to contact your doctor and tell them that Pertussis was confirmed by the Ontario County Health Department in the Senior High School.
