  • NEWARK — Wayne County Public Health said the child safety seat check-up event held at the Newark Fire Department on Sept. 21 was a success.
Fifty-two car seats were inspected by certified child passenger safety technicians from Public Health, Ontario County Sheriff’s Department, Canandaigua Police Department and the New York State Police. Certified technicians checked car seats for proper installation and advised parents and caregivers how to choose the right car seat and install them properly in their vehicles.
The free event was part of Wayne County Public Health’s way of participating in a statewide effort during National Child Passenger Safety Week and National Seat Check Saturday to improve the safety of New York’s children.
“By using the right seat in the right way, parents have greater confidence that their kids will be safe on the roads whenever they travel.” said Lisa O’Dell from Wayne County Public Health. “Far too many car seats are being used incorrectly, despite kids’ safety being a top priority of parents.”
Parents don’t have to wait for the next National Seat Check Saturday to make sure their car seats are installed properly. Parents can call Wayne County Public Health at 946-5749 to make appointments any time with a certified technician.
