Monroe County sheriff's deputies say the derailment occurred around 5:20 a.m. when the conductor of a commercial CSX train carrying soybeans was backing up on the tracks off Lyndon Road next to the Fairport Little League Complex.
At least six cars had moved off the track, although the reason is unknown at present, according to sheriff's spokesman John Helfer. CSX will be investigating the cause of the crash.
Deputies are on scene for security purposes and no roads have been closed.
