  • The Warm Winter Project has been delivering donated warm clothing for Wayne County service agencies to distribute to needy residents.
The WWP will provide yarn to be knit or crocheted into mittens, hats and scarves. Residents who can knit, crochet or sew fleece into mittens, hats, scarves or afghans are encouraged to donate items to help a needy child or adult. Men's size hats and mittens should be in an appropriate color—dark blue, brown, black or camo—and child size mittens, hats and scarves should use thick gauge yarn so that items are warm.
The WWP will also accept donations of full and partial skeins of yarn; clean, used warm clothing; and gloves, blankets, towels and coats in good condition. T-shirts, sweatshirts and sweatpants with stains and/or holes are acceptable. New items, socks, underwear, towels and disposable diapers are appreciated as well.
Specific needs for the VA Medical Center include full-sized blankets; new sweatpants and sweatshirts in medium, large and extra large; new crew socks and diabetic socks; and knit hats and mittens; no knit lap warmers please. The center also needs grocery store gift cards and hygiene items including shampoo, conditioner, lotion, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, toenail clippers, etc.
Yarn can be picked up and finished items dropped off at Lyons National Bank, 750 West Miller St., Newark; Sheep & Wool Shop, 4849 Cory Corners Road, Marion; Creative Environment Day Care, 28 Main St., Macedon; or The Palmyra Village clerk's office, 144 E. Main St., Palmyra. For more information or to schedule large volume clothing pick up, call Linda at (315) 986-9674.
Thanks to kind crafters, the WWP provided over 370 items to the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Catholic Charities, Victim's Resource Center and other agencies last year.
