  • John Arden Collins passed into eternal rest on Oct. 28, 2013, at the age of 86.
Family and friends are invited to call from 2 to 3 p.m. on Nov. 3 at Zion Episcopal Church in Palmyra where John's funeral will be celebrated at 3 p.m. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. The burial will be private in Palmyra Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, consider memorials to Zion Episcopal Church, 120 E. Main St., Palmyra, NY 14522, or to Clifton Springs Hospital Foundation, 2 Coulter Road, Clifton Springs, NY 14432.
John, born on August 6, 1927, in Macedon, was the son of the late Arden John and Violet Crawford Collins. He and Ramona Goulden were married on June 18, 1955, in Zion Episcopal Church in Palmyra. John was a dairy farmer with a green thumb, affection for all animals and a knack for fixing things, which made him invaluable to the 365th Infantry while serving as a mechanic and driver in the Panama Canal Zone. He worked for American Can for 30 years. He volunteered for many causes including the Palmyra Farmington Food Pantry and helped out as a handyman wherever he was needed. John was a longtime member of Zion Episcopal Church, where he served as the church school superintendent. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, gardening, reading, watching old movies, and spoiling his pets. He was a loving, patient husband, father and grandfather.
John is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Ramona; daughters, Susan (Charles) Kohlmeier and Sharon (Gerald) Trant; son, John Collins; grandchildren, Carrie, Nathan, Chelsea, Shannon, Sarah and Patrick; and his beloved cat, Teddy, and dog, Misty. He was predeceased by his sisters, Violet Allen, Viola Barkewicz, Betsy Lockley and June Pembroke.
