Doris Mae Cook, 102, entered eternal rest on Oct. 29 at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital.
Family and friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Nov. 2 at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home Inc., 124 W. Miller St., Newark, where a funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Port Gibson Cemetery. A reception will follow at the American Legion, East Union Street, Newark. Mrs. Cook was born the daughter of the late Floyd and Nellie (Colegrove) Allen on Sept. 7, 1911, in Port Clinton, Ohio. She graduated Hutchinson Central High School in Buffalo in 1930. She had been a member of Port Gibson United Methodist Church since 1944, and over the years, she served on many committees including the UMW. Mrs. Cook enjoyed reading, baking, cooking and crocheting.
Mrs. Cook will be remembered by her sons, Richard Cook and Gregory (Karen) Cook; daughter, Gloria (Herman) Shippers; grandchildren, Sue Boye, Julie Sunser, Ginny Virts, Shirley Huntley, Nancy Mowers, Kristi Ward, Kevin Rude, Allen Cook, Jenna Cook, Daniel Cook, Gregory "Sonny" Cook Jr., Jonathan James "JJ" Cook, Sean Cook, Heather Bassett, Angela Moisan, Daniella Thompson and Kayla Cook; 17 great grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Cook was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Willard A. Cook, in July of 1993; daughter, Allene Huntley, in November of 2010; one brother and three sisters; grandson, Michael; and great grandson, Donald.
