  • WALWORTH — Ruben A. Cirillo High School students participated in Operation Gratitude, a national effort to recognize and thank U.S. troops deployed abroad with creative and timely care packages. The student congress-led project challenged classmates to donate unopened candy throughout the first week of November.
The student’s enthusiasm was apparent in this year’s first school-wide candy collection, with a final weigh-in of nearly 250 pounds. The candy will be packaged and sent to those defending our country as a “sweet” thank you for their service.
“The kids did a really great job collecting the candy and showing the appreciation for our local troops serving overseas,” says Amy Peterson, Student Congress Co-Advisor. “We hope to do it throughout the district next year.”
