  • MACEDON — A Rochester man and his passenger escape from a car as it sinks into the Erie Canal in Macedon, police said.
Randy L. Cole told Macedon police he was traveling north on Alderman Road around 1:20 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23 when he failed to see a stop sign until it was too late, police said. The vehicle crossed Route 31 and went airborne. The vehicle landed in the Erie Canal and Cole and his passenger were able to escape from the sinking vehicle through the sun roof.
When police arrived, the vehicle was completely submerged in the canal waters.
Cole and his passenger, who was not identified by police, suffered bruises to their face. They were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital where they were treated and released.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Dive Team worked to pull the vehicle from the water.
The investigation is continuing and charges may be pending.
