A chase that started in Macedon, crossed county lines, and involved three law enforcement agencies before ending in a downtown Rochester crash is still being investigated.
On Nov. 29 Town of Macedon police responded to the area of 425 Route 31 in Macedon for a report of a larceny of alcohol from a Sampson Drive business. Information on three suspects, along with a vehicle description, led police to the vehicle, which was pulling out of a parking space in an adjacent Walmart store. When police attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspects allegedly tried to ram a Macedon police vehicle, before fleeing into Monroe County via Route 31.
Macedon police continued to pursue the suspect vehicle with assistance from the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. The suspects eluded police for a brief period of time on East Main Street in Rochester before crashing into another vehicle which was crossing the intersection. Stolen merchandise from several stores was recovered from the vehicle, police said.
The suspect vehicle came to rest on the sidewalk and the vehicle that was struck was overturned in the middle of the roadway. The driver that was struck had to be extricated by the Rochester Fire Department, along with the three suspects in the fleeing vehicle. All were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital with injuries.
The incident is still being investigated at this time, with charges forthcoming by the Macedon Police Department and the Rochester Police Department. No names are being released at this time due to notifications still being made.
