  • A Canandaigua woman was struck and seriously injured while crossing Route 364 at about 6:33 p.m. Monday night, according to Ontario County Sheriff's Deputies.
Maryann Taddonio, 50, of Woodridge Motel on Lakeshore Drive in Canandaigua, was crossing Route 364 from east to west near Schooner's Restaurant. Police said Taddonio was headed toward the Valero gas station when she was struck by a 2004 Ford Windstar driven by Edwin Nemitz Jr., 43, of Middlesex.
Taddonio was thrown onto the hood of the van, before landing in the southbound lane of Route 364. She was treated at the scene by Canandaigua Ambulance and flown to Strong Memorial Hospital by Mercy Flight. The woman was unconscious, but alive, according to Sgt. Dave Cirencione of the Ontario County Sheriff's Office, when she was airlifted.
Taddonio is listed in guarded condition with head and spinal injuries. Police said Taddonio was wearing dark clothing and was crossing the road where there is no crosswalk and in poor lighting.
Nemitz and his passengers, Elizabeth Nemitz, 13, and Daniel Nemitz, 6, were all wearing seatbelts and were not injured, police said. Although neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be factors in the collision, it remains under investigation, deputies said.
Route 364 was closed between Lakeshore Drive and County Road 18 for two hours while the Ontario County Sheriff's Accident Reconstruction Team investigated. The Canandaigua Fire Department, Cheshire Fire Department, and Canandaigua City Police also assisted at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
