Lieutenant Jeff Fosdick and Major Lester W. Carr Jr. of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office joined ninety-two county jail administrators from Sheriff's Offices around the state to attend the annual Jail Administrators' Continuing Education Program at the Gideon Putnam Hotel in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. recently. Nationally known corrections consultant Carrie Hill, Esq. of Criminal Justice Consulting, LLC was a featured speaker at the conference, presenting an extended update on legal issues facing corrections facilities.
Other topics covered at the four-day program ranged from Veterans and County Jails; Jails and the Affordable Care Act; Use of Restraints; and Changes to the NYS High School Equivalency Testing System. Representatives of the NYS Commission of Correction; the NYS Department of Corrections & Community Supervision, NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services, and the NYS Comptroller’s Office shared their perspectives on new laws, practices, and programs with the jail administrators.
Experts from several Sheriff's Offices also presented, including: Retired Captain Patrick Johnson of the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office on Mental Health Issues in County Jails, Ron Harling of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office on Medicaid Reimbursements for County Jail Medical Costs and on the Monroe County JailStat Program, and Chris Lian (Retired) of the Steuben County Sheriff's Office.
