The event in the past three years has raised more than $2.2 million.

Thousands took part Wednesday in ROC the Day — a 24-hour online event for the community to donate to local not-for-profit organizations.

In total, $780,574 was raised by 5,684 donors who made 8,775 donations throughout the day. This includes $221,389 in challenge grants and $24,000 in donor and agency incentives throughout the event.

More than 300 not-for-profit organizations benefiting Ontario County participated in the third annual ROC the Day. They were among the 615 organizations — which provide direct services in the nine-county Greater Rochester area — that took part.

The event raised about $560,000 in 2011 and about $875,000 in 2012, said Juli Geyer, marketing and communications supervisor for the United Way of Greater Rochester, which powered the event. In its three years, ROC the Day has raised more than $2.2 million for local programs.

"Rochester's excitement surrounding ROC the Day proves what a generous and giving community we live in," said Colleen Wegman, CEO of Wegmans and board chair for the United Way of Greater Rochester. "The success of this year's ROC the Day demonstrates once again our continued commitment to help those in need."
