  • Service Recognition: Deputy Kevin Vaughn completed 10 years of service and Deputy George Lorenz 20 years of service. I salute Kevin and George for their service!
I would like to thank Public Safety Chairperson Supervisor Robert Plant and Public Safety Committee board member Supervisor Jody Bender for their service and dedication to all public safety services (EMS, fire and law enforcement) while being accountable to our taxpayers throughout their tenure on the Public Safety Committee. I wish them both happiness and health during their retirement.
November Training: Lieutenant Robert Milby attended an Active Shooter Threat Instructor training in Artesia, New Mexico, Sergeant Mark Loveless attended the Arson and Fire Seminar at the NYS Fire Academy in Montour Falls, Sergeants Kevin Kuntz and Tom Virts attended the Fire/Arson Origin and Cause Investigation training at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland, Lieutenant Jeff Fosdick and I attended a Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) training at the State Preparedness Training Center in Oriskany sponsored by the NYS Sheriffs' Association.
Holiday Safety Tips: If you shop at night, park in a well –lighted area, do not leave packages or valuables in plain sight in your car. Lock them in the trunk. When you use an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) protect your PIN by shielding the ATM keypad from anyone that is standing near you and do not throw your ATM receipt away at the ATM location. Notify the credit card issuer and law enforcement immediately if your credit card is lost, stolen or misused. Be aware of strangers approaching you for any reason. At this time of year, “con-artists” may try various methods of distracting you with intentions to steal your money and/or packages. Donate to recognized charitable organizations, not just anyone soliciting money contributions.
The Wayne County Action Program and Sheriff’s Office have teamed up in receiving a $10,000 grant from the Bullis Foundation to continue the Parenting Enhancement Program at the jail facility. This is a program that connects the incarcerated parent with their young child with a literacy activity. The goal is to create a family bond through literacy.
My Swearing in Ceremony is Sunday, Dec. 29 at 2 p.m. at the County Courthouse in Lyons. You are all invited to attend. There will be light refreshments afterward. Please join me as I take my oath to serve you.
I hope and wish you all have a safe and Merry Christmas.
