NEWARK — On Dec. 9 and 10, American Red Cross volunteers and staff distributed over 850 toys, games, clothing items, dolls, etc. to 389 needy children from every corner of the Wayne County community during the organization’s annual toy drive.
“What a pleasure it is to be a part of the wonderful programs of the Wayne County American Red Cross. The Toy program was an especially joyous time for the recipients and for the volunteers. Thank you to the community for their support of this and all of the Red Cross efforts,” said Red Cross Board Chairman Bill Boyd.
Some families began lining up outside the Red Cross at 5:30 a.m. on Monday morning.
“I was very thankful that the inclement weather held off until the late evening,” said Red Cross Executive Director James Love.
The American Red Cross would like to thank the employees and volunteers from the following Wayne County organizations for their gift collection efforts this holiday season: Lyons National Bank, Redeemer Lutheran Church, Newark Police Department, Woodlane Community Church, IEC Electronics, Dr. Pepper Snapple, Word or God Ministries, Walgreens, Newark Rotary Club, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Maco Bag Corporation, Tom Wahl’s, Emmanuel Methodist Church, the office of Dr. Hicks and Dr. Boyd, the Wayne County Bar Association, Newark United Methodist Church, the 48 Club, the Newark Walmart, the American Red Cross Board of Directors, Cub Scout Pack 137, and many local individuals and families.
