  • Ontario County sheriff's deputies, along with Finger Lakes Ambulance and Clifton Springs Fire Department crews, responded Wednesday to a two-car crash on Route 96, near Brown Road, in Manchester.
Deputies said Louis J. Saito, 20, of 49 Mynderse St., Apt. 3, Seneca Falls, was driving east on Route 96 at about 3:45 p.m. when he passed another vehicle traveling east, and his vehicle struck head-on a westbound vehicle operated by Robert M. Curran, 58, of 5071 Canadice Lake Road, Hemlock.
Deputies said Curran was not very alert at the scene, and he was flown by Mercy Flight helicopter to Strong Memorial Hospital for neck and chest injuries. He was listed in satisfactory condition Thursday morning, according to a hospital representative. A front-seat passenger in Curran's vehicle, Theresa L. Soback-Colegrove, 59, of 5440 Curtis Road, Apt. 1, Hemlock, was taken to Thompson Hospital by Finger Lakes Ambulance personnel for back pain, deputies said. A front-seat passenger in Saito's vehicle, Megan M. Eddington, 23, of Oaks Corners, complained of neck, back, foot and stomach pain and was taken to Newark-Wayne Community Hospital by ambulance personnel.
Deputies allege Saito was at fault for the crash, and he was issued tickets for reckless driving, failure to keep right and unsafe passing. He is scheduled to appear in Manchester Town Court.
