WALWORTH — Seventeen Ruben A. Cirillo High School students were inducted into the Gananda Mathematics Honor Society. Students in this organization provide after school math tutoring services across the district. A ceremony to recognize and welcome the new members was held on Nov. 21.
Founded in the Spring of 2003, Gananda’s chapter of the Mathematics Honor Society is an affiliate of the New York State Mathematics Honor Society, run by the Association of Mathematics Teachers of New York State. To be considered for this honor, students must demonstrate scholarship by holding an average of 90 percent or higher in math as well as an overall average of 90 percent. Additionally, students must obtain a letter of recommendation from a non-math teacher as well as write a math-themed essay.
The new inductees are as follows: McKenna Cannon-Bailey, Brandon Courteau, Daniel Courteau, Madeline Donegan, Benjamin Donnan, Alexandra Jenny, Giulia Mahoney, Spencer Miller, Daniel Mochan, Rachael Moore, Paige Nelson, Nicole Rink, Kole Seeber, Monika Sekulovska, Mikayla Vogt, Allyson Whitney and Peyton Wyjad.
