  • NEWARK Dr. Fred Hicks, noted for adding realism to his book reviews packed the Newark Library meeting room on Dec. 13, as he reviewed "Secret Life of Houdini." Hicks finished his talk as if he was ready for the water tank trick, complete with chains.
Friday, Jan. 10 brings another interesting program as Laurel Piampiano of the Newark Tuesday Club reviews the book "Hidden in Plain View" by Jacqueline Tobin and Raymond Dobard.
Mrs. Piampiano's talk that she originally presented at a Tuesday Club meeting, is entitled "Hidden in Plain Sight" and presents both sides of a fascinating story that certain quilt patterns may have been tools for escape along the Underground Railroad.
Space is limited for the Jan. 10, Friends of the Library Luncheon that is set for noon at the library. Tickets are $5 and include lunch and home-made apple pie. Call the library at 331-4370 by Jan. 9.
