COACH OF THE YEAR
Years coaching: 9
Season Highlights: Led the Screaming Eagles to a 15-5 regular-season record to finish third in the Finger Lakes East. The girls' wins this season during dual meets were very exciting. They were close and they all helped each other out.
What makes this team memorable: The girls were confident enough to train and push each other. Mariah Sargent, Haley Smith, Jessica Skellie, Colby Kidder, Kayla Goodman and Abbigail Jansen worked hard and wanted to be successful. For us, it's only the second year we've been complete all season and we were competitive.
Favorite part about coaching: Seeing them grow up and continue to love running either competitively or just for the love of it. Having my fourth graders excited to run cross country because their teacher is "couch of the year."
Season highlights: Won the Early Season Scramble at Bullis Park, small school race at the GCC Invite, and League Championship at Bullis Park. Placed second at the McQuaid Invitational in the unseeded A-2 small school race. Finished 13th overall in Section 5 at sectionals, and third in Class C. Went undefeated in league meets (6-0) and made a second-consecutive trip to states.
Most memorable moments: Being called "Ashley Burton" at the Section 5 banquet. Bus rides to and from meets with my team. Stopping at Wegmans to eat after meets.
Plans for college: Possibly studying physical therapy and continue running cross country and track.
Season highlights: Finished fourth at the Section 5 Class D/DD race. Placed 35th at the state championships. Named the Indians' Most Outstanding Runner at the team banquet.
Most memorable moments: Having a mud fight at our last practice. Running at Winged Pheasant Golf Course. Carrying our spirit stick/tree while walking the sectional course.
Season highlights: Ran a personal record time of 20:27 this season. Placed second at a race on the Mendon East course. Served as captain for the Braves and received the Team Leadership and Team Competitor awards. A scholar athlete.
Most memorable moments: Being a captain with Kennedy Jensen and David Wall.
Plans for college: Attend St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia to play lacrosse and major in pharmaceutical marketing and healthcare management.
Season highlights: Finished 12th at sectionals and seventh at the league meet. Named a Finger Lakes East first-team all-star and to league's Super Seven. Took first in meets at Sodus and Pal-Mac. Selected as the team's Most Valuable Player.
Most memorable moments: Finished 22nd at McQuaid and finishing in first for the first time at Sodus.
Season highlights: The captain made the Wayne-Finger Lakes East all-star team. Placed 14th at Section 5 Class C race.
Most memorable moments: All of our team bonding, whether it was our crazy sleepovers or just hanging out in our secret sports before practice. I loved that we were able to grow not only as a team, but as a XC family. I am going to miss all of them so much and wish them all the best next season.
Season highlights: Named a Wayne-Finger Lakes League Central all-star for the second year in a row. The Bombers captain's best time was 22:04 this season. Finished 13th in Class DD at sectionals.
Most memorable moments: Bonding in the freezing cold at leagues all huddled in a clump of sleeping bags and blankets. Plans for college: I know that I want to pursue musical theatre. I love singing and dancing.
