LYONS — The Lyons School District has been awarded a New York State Education grant that will expand our Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) classes to full day and add more UPK classrooms for this current year. We will be collaborating with the Wayne County Action Program and Lyons Head Start during this transition. Due to the expansion we are able to accept more students into the FREE UPK program.
On Monday, Feb. 3, the (UPK) program will change from half day to full day. Other benefits include:
• As a part of the UPK program, all students will attend breakfast and lunch each school day. For those that qualify, free and reduced meals are available. All others can either bring their meals or purchase them at the cost of $1.25 for breakfast and $2.25 for lunch.
• Transportation will be provided by the school. More specific information will be communicated from the Transportation Department as the first day approaches.
• The school day will follow the current K-6 time schedule of a 7:45 am class arrival and a 2:20 pm dismissal.
A UPK eligible student for the current 2013-2014 school year must be 4 years of age on or before Dec. 1, 2013 to qualify. If you have questions about child eligibility or wish to enroll your child in the UPK program, please contact Robin Cinelli at the Elementary Office: 946-2200 ext. 3503.
