  • Sheriff announces deputy promotions

  • LYONS — Wayne County Sheriff Barry Virts announces the promotion of Deputies Matthew Hilkert and Joseph Ayotte, and the transfer of Sergeant Joseph Croft and Deputy Andrew Hares.
    Deputy Matthew Hilkert has been promoted to the rank of sergeant assigned to the Criminal Investigation Unit as an investigator. Hilkert is a 10 year veteran with the Sheriff’s Office. Hilkert will continue his special assignments on the Emergency Response Team and as a certified law enforcement instructor for Tasers, Defensive Tactics and Batons.
    Deputy Joseph Ayotte has been promoted to the rank of sergeant assigned to Road Patrol Shift Supervision. Ayotte is a 16 year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office. Ayotte will continue his special assignments on the Crash Management Team.
    Sergeant Joseph Croft has been transferred from Road Patrol Supervision to the Criminal Investigations Unit as an investigator. Croft is a 16-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office. Croft continues his special assignments on the Emergency Response Team, Honor Guard and as a certified law enforcement instructor of general topics.
    Deputy Andrew Hares has been temporarily assigned to the newly formed Welfare Fraud Unit working with the Wayne County Department of Social Services. Hares is a four-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office.
