  • Chris Brown. MD, a Sports Medicine Specialist/Orthopaedic Surgeon from Finger Lakes Bone and Joint and Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, Newark High School coaches and nurses, and trainers and physical therapists from Brownstone Physical Therapy have created a unique team to benefit the student athletes at the Newark Schools. The team represents a professional Sports Medicine model, right here in Wayne County – a rare advantage for student athletes in this region.
“We are very fortunate to have Dr. Christopher Brown here working in our community; he is truly outstanding,” said Coach Mike McGavisk, Head Varsity Coach at the Newark High School. “Our student athletes are well cared for. Dr. Brown, as well as the trainers and physical therapists, often attend our games and are also in constant contact with our coaches and school nurses. They know what we need to help prevent injuries and to offer quick assistance when injuries do occur, minimizing damage. This takes some of the anxiousness about injury off of the coaches’ and nurses’ shoulders knowing that this team of professionals is available for a safer better experience for our student athletes.”
“I am an athlete at heart and I’ve also got a good deal of experience with athletics, coaches and teams,” said Chris Brown, MD. “I’m thrilled with the model that has been created at Newark because it helps everyone involved – the students, parents, and school and medical professionals by minimizing injuries and enhancing the benefits of school sports programs.”
Dr. Brown earned his medical degree at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in Cincinnati, OH and completed a residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Duke University in Durham, NC. Dr. Brown also completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine at Stanford University in Stanford, CA. While at Stanford, he provided coverage for the San Francisco 49ers and Stanford’s athletics program.
