LYONS — The entire community is invited to the Lyons Community Center on Saturday, March 22 from 9 a.m. to noon for the 10th Annual Lyons Community Health Fair. There truly will be something for everyone. This free fair includes information, displays, samples, and gifts from over 50 different health agencies. As you stroll around the Community Center you will also come across free health screenings, a blood drive (which goes until 2 PM), and free children’s bicycle helmets made possible by a grant from the NY State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.
In celebration of this year’s theme: “Healthy Family Fun Day”, there will be a children’s carnival with games, a petting zoo, face painting, and Wally Crumb balloon artist. New this year is the career information that many of the vendors will have available as it pertains to their career in the health field. They will be prepared to discuss education and experience requirements, salary range and job outlook. As is past years, there will be a number of free raffles, as well as raffles to raise money for a health-related cause. This year, the Lyons Community Food Cupboard will be the recipient of their fundraising efforts. An autographed Abby Wambach soccer ball and a Sylvan Gift Certificate valued at over $350 are among the items to be raffled.
Members of Lyons Class of 2015 were getting ready to collect and organize the non-perishable food items which will be collected for the Food Cupboard at Lyons MS/HS spring musical; and in the Elementary and MS/HS Schools in Lyons; and at Dobbins Drugs (52 William St, Lyons) which began on St. Patrick’s Day. People are also encouraged to bring donations of foods such as canned fruits, vegetables, soups, chili, and meats, and bags or boxes of such items as cereal, rice, and pasta to the Health Fair on Saturday. (Please do not bring “junk food” or food which has expired dates. It cannot be used at the Food Pantry.) People wanting to make cash donations to the Food Pantry are asked to make the checks payable to “Lyons Community Food Pantry” and send them to Mrs. Jill Harper, Lyons MS/HS School Nurse, 10 Clyde Road, Lyons, NY 14489. Donations made by check are tax deductible. Also at the Fair, the Lyons Class of 2016 will be selling First Aid Kits, and the Wayne County Sheriff’s free Operation Safe Child offering fingerprinting and photo ID’s for children will be present; as will Wegman’s, as they offer Healthy Food Options with free samples and give-a-ways.
Throughout the morning, there will be health screenings and information on vision, dental, medical and psychological health. Team Beachbody Coach Scott Dix will present T25 Cardio at 10 a.m. and P90X3 MMX at 11 a.m.
The Lyons Community Health Fair is a cooperative effort between Lyons Central School and St. Francis/St. Stephens School. This year’s special sponsors are Wegman’s and Brownstone Physical Therapy.
