The sounds of drums and flutes of the Towpath Fife and Drum Corps playing “Deck the Halls” heralded Santa’s arrival atop a brightly lit boat in Macedon Friday night, Dec. 7 for the Macedon Village Christmas Tree lighting.

Santa’s much anticipated visit was well met by the more than 50 people gathered in front of the Village Hall as they watched Macedon Fire Department and Ambulance leading the parade down Center Street to Main Street. Mayor Marie Cramer welcomed guests and reminded everyone the day’s special significance, Pearl Harbor Day when in 1941 Japanese bombs dropped on American soil in the Hawaii harbor killing 2,400 people, wounding 1,100 and prompting the U.S. to declare war on Japan.

After lighting the tree and a couple of Christmas carols, Santa lead a parade down Main Street to local businesses where children received a treat before a Christmas story at the American Legion.
Cramer was pleased with the turn out and the success of the festivities.

“Everybody really pulled together to make this happen,” she said.
