The District Competition for the Hoop Shoot Program was recently held at the North Rose-Wolcott High School.
District Hoop Shoot Chairman Ed Miller and a number of Elk volunteers conducted the event. Youngsters from throughout the Elks West Central District competed. Those competitors had earlier been selected as champions in their local community competitions.
Elks Lodges participating in the competition and sending local champions to the District Shoot Off were Rochester No. 4, Webster-Fairport No. 2396, Canandaigua No. 1844, Wolcott No. 1763, Lyons No. 869, Newark No. 1249, and Seneca Falls No. 992.
At the end of the competition, Chairman Miller announced the competitors sponsored by Lyons Elks Lodge No. 869 finished as follows: Caiden Crego was the winner of the girls bracket for ages 10-11 years and that Jerrell Petty was the winner of the boys bracket for ages 8-9 years. Riley DeCola finished in second place for girls bracket for ages 8-9 years and Justice Smith finished in third place for boys bracket ages 10-11 years.
Following the competition, an awards ceremony and luncheon was provided for all of the competitors and their families at the Wolcott Elks Lodge. First place winners advanced to the West Regional Competition to be sponsored by Lockport Elks Lodge No. 41.
