Each school year, the Pal-Mac Middle School invites an author to visit to celebrate reading.

This year, Middle School Library Media Specialist Karen Woodhouse contacted Dar Williams’ agent in the spring of 2012 to arrange for her to share her song and book writing experiences with Palmyra-Macedon Middle School students. Woodhouse also led the Middle School Book Committee as they read Dar’s books and agreed to invite her to present. With much anticipation, Dar Williams performed at the High School Performing Arts Center for the Middle School grades 6 through 8 on Jan. 18. She spoke about the writing process and how she develops ideas for poetry, music and books. She performed many songs and was an inspiration to all.

That afternoon, three students from the middle school Journalism Club, led by Mrs. Christine Bennett, had the opportunity to interview Dar Williams over lunch. It was a great experience for these students to practice their speaking and writing skills. Overall, Middle School students enjoyed meeting such a talented singer, song writer, and author.

The students had an opportunity to read her book, “Amalee”, and listen to her music during Home Base. For more information on Dar Williams, visit her website at www.darwilliams.com.
