• An early morning blaze destroyed the Valley Drive Inn restaurant on Route 31 west. The business had been purchased a new owner a week before. Damage was estimated at $25,000.
• Kurt F. Werts, a student at Grove City College, was elected historian of Nu Lambda Phi fraternity.
• Ad - A & P Market offered Funk & Wagnall's Encylopedia, volume 1 for 25 cents and the remaining volumes at $2.99 per week.
• At Newark High School, officers of the Boy's Service Club were Gary Grant, Jim Praino, Mike Peters, and David Nash.

• A citizens group appeared before the Arcadia Town Board opposing the sale of the landfill on Route 88 to a large company, Browning & Ferris.
• The Newark Fire Department held their annual banquet at the Newark Elks Club. An honored guest was T. Spencer Knight, last surviving member of the Protectives Company #3.
• The Newark Post Office announced reduction of service hours, closing the window from 1 to 2:30 p.m. daily.
• Joe Cordaro was appointed part time Arcadia Code Enforcement officer .
• William Dean of Palmyra, a longtime employee of the New York Telephone Co. was named the company's Community Representative.
