The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is investigating the report of a man carrying a rifle contained in a case outside of Lyons Elementary School.
A sheriff's investigator was driving by the school when he saw a man walking on the sidewalk in front of the school carrying a gun case. Deputies say a .22 caliber rifle was inside the case.
Deputies questioned the man, and he was released without being charged. Deputies said the man was not going onto school property, but was waiting to ride the Wayne Area Transportation Services to visit a friend outside the village of Lyons.
