Through the support of the Wayne County Historical organizations, a county-wide genealogical society was formed on Oct. 23. Elected society officers are: Chair, Barbara “BJ” Reeves Meeks of Newark; Secretary, Debra Wiegand of Lyons; Treasurer, Liz Albright of Ontario, and Program Chair, Pauline Harper of Wolcott.

The Wayne County New York Genealogical Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating its members and the community about proper genealogical research methods and source documentation; seeks to further the genealogical historical knowledge of its members and the community; and endeavors to preserving records of genealogical value and making them available to others.

The next meeting of the Wayne County New York Genealogical Society will be Tuesday, Nov. 27 from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Newark-Arcadia Historical Society, 120 High St., Newark. The program for the next meeting will be “Beginning Genealogy 101 or How to Begin Researching Your Family History.”  All persons having an interest in genealogy or family history are welcome to attend.  Individual charter membership applications will be made available through the end of 2012, with regular memberships beginning in 2013. For more Information, call (315) 221-8682.
