Palmyra man dies, wife hospitalized in Route 31 crash

A Palmyra man was killed Monday evening in a crash on Route 31 in Palmyra, according to New York state police.

Investigators said Harold Fisher, 89, was operating a pick-up truck at about 5:50 p.m. on Vienna Road when he turned west onto Route 31 in the eastbound lane. The truck collided head-on with a car operated by Peter Ganze, 47, of Lyons.

Fisher was transported to Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, troopers said.

His wife, Dorothy Fisher, 86, was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. She was listed in guarded condition, as of 8:30 a.m. today.

Ganze was treated at the scene for injuries and released.
