Wayne County Humane Society open house event seeks to educate community

Three event highlights

1 A variety of educational speakers, including: from 1 to 1:30 p.m., Wayne County District Attorney Richard Healy on animal abuse and prosecution of cases; 1:30 to 2 p.m., Wayne County Sheriff’s K-9 demonstration with Deputy George Lorenz and his partner Bara; 2 to 2:30 p.m., Sue Fleig and the dog agility course, watch as these highly motivated and trained dogs run through tunnels, jump over obstacles and perform amazing feats; 2:30 to 3 p.m., Dr. Kevin Wolfer from Lyons Vet Clinic will speak about pet first aid and take questions regarding pets and their health; 3 to 3:30 p.m., Fran Schonfeld: Paws-I-Tive Dog Behavior trainer, learn some basic tips and advice on properly training a dog; 3:30 to 4 p.m., Fleig and the dog agility course.

2 The day will be filled with food, games, family fun and humane education. There will be door prizes, raffles and silent auction baskets. The following will also be in attendance: Cracker Box Palace, Kritter Kris Wildlife Rehabilator, Habitat for Cats Feral Cat Rescue, Big Dogs/Big Hearts Rescue, Webster Vet with the Dog Tag machine, Full Moon Yoga & Healing, Maxman Reptile Rescue. Special guests Wildlife Defenders from Canandaigua will also be at the event. This is a program of the Bridges for Brain Injury, Inc.  See many different animals from all over the world. Wildlife Defenders is a wildlife educational program run by adults with traumatic brain injury. Participation is part of their rehabilitation. They care for over 36 species of native and exotic wildlife.

3 We will have a used book sale, bake and flower sale and of course the silent auction. There will be a variety of wine baskets, gift baskets, specialty Items and much, much more.
Sign up for a 2011 membership, Paws for a Cause will be going on, register early for Mutt Strut 2011 and buy a Go Fetch raffle ticket. Hot dogs, soda and chips, all for $2, will be served.
