Wayne County STOP DWI is one of 29 counties named as receiving a flow through grant from the Governors Traffic Safety Committee to the STOP DWI Association Foundation.
The grant provides funding for additional law enforcement patrols during the 2012-2013 holidays. The goal is to identify impaired drivers from alcohol and other drugs.
The participating law enforcement agencies will include Wayne County Office of the Sheriff, Newark Police Department and Macedon Police Department. The New York state police will also be providing additional holiday efforts under a separate grant.
The Feb. 2 and 3, 2013 Super Bowl Impaired Drivers Crackdown resulted in eight tickets issued with one DWI arrest and three other arrests.
The year 2011 was the first ever with zero alcohol related fatalities. STOP DWI also ended 2012 with one potential alcohol related pedestrian death.
