Western Finger Lakes Authority announced last week that curbside recycling collection in six Wayne County towns and three villages would be suspended as of Monday, Aug. 30.

“Ongoing and severe recycling truck maintenance problems have resulted in the difficult decision to institute a month long suspension in recycling collection service for the towns of Huron, Rose, Galen, Savannah, Butler and Wolcott and the villages of Clyde, Wolcott and Red Creek beginning Monday, Aug, 30 and continuing through two collection cycles during the month of September,” said Sharon Lilla, authority administrator said in a statement released to the media.

Curbside recycling will resume in those six towns and three villages Monday, Sept. 27.

Several of the authority recycling collection trucks are currently out of service, while undergoing repairs, Lilla said.

Because of this, the authority does not have enough trucks to cover all routes.
Suspending service will provide the authority time to repair the fleet and prepare it for the winter months, Lilla said.

Once the trucks are repaired, the normal service will be restored.

“The safety of the trucks, drivers and the traveling public is our top priority,” the press release stated.

In the interim, residents can drop off recycling at the Wayne County Materials Recovery Facility at 4060 Route 88 North in Arcadia. The site will begin operation for drop-off of recycling on Monday, Aug. 30. Residents from the affected towns and villages will be able to drop off their recycling from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
