An unlicensed youth allegedly failed to yield the right of way to a sheriff’s deputy causing an accident that sent three people to the hospital, Wayne County sheriff’s deputies said.
The youth was traveling west on Route 441 in Walworth with the owner of the vehicle, Kevin Shoemaker, 41, of View Pointe Drive, Macedon, as a passenger, deputies said. A sheriff’s deputy was coming up from behind the youth’s vehicle with lights and sirens activated when the youth failed to pull over to allow the patrol car to pass and turned left on to Lorraine Drive directly in the path of the deputy, deputies said.
The vehicles collided and the vehicle driven by the youth rolled over in the collision and came to rest on its roof.
The youth, Shoemaker and the deputy were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester for treatment of injuries.
The investigation is continuing and charges are pending.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by Walworth and Lincoln fire and rescue, Walworth, Macedon and Marion ambulances and New York state police.
