The Newark Village Board approved a $3 per 1,000 gallons hike in sewer rates Tuesday night at their regular board meeting.
Despite opposition from residents at the public hearing last month, the board unanimously agreed to raise sewer rates from $6.50 to $9.50 per 1,000 gallons. The driving force behind the increase is the $17.6 million capital improvement project for the wastewater treatment facility.
The rate hike takes effect with the May billing for water usage in February, March and April.
