The Rochester Police Department has reported that Troy Patrick Zabawczuk, 44, of Schenectady, has died after an accident around midnight on the train tracks near the Amtrak station at 320 Central Ave.
Police said they responded to an EMS call at the station for the report of a person injured on the tracks. Zabawczuk appeared to have suffered a severe head injury, as well as lacerations to his body, police said.
Police said the investigation revealed that Zabawczuk was allegedly intoxicated while onboard the train and became disruptive to other passengers. He temporarily exited the train at Rochester for unknown reasons and was denied re-boarding by the conductor due to his disruptive behavior, police said. Investigators believe that he may have tried to jump onto the train as it departed and that he may have been dragged a short distance.
Zabawczuk was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he later died.
