Moody's Corporation, a global credit rating agency, has assigned an "Aa2" rating to Wayne County's general obligation bonds.
The positive credit rating will lower the cost of borrowing and the cost of taxes for Wayne County residents.
"This is good news for Wayne County taxpayers," said Thomas Warnick, Wayne County's treasurer, in a press release today, Jan. 23.
Warnick also explained in the press release that stable market conditions in Wayne County, coupled with the new credit rating, will save taxpayers approximately $415,000.
Wayne County earned the Aa2 credit rating for its $4.6 billion tax base, strong financial position and modest debt burden.
